AOTEAROA / WHO PUTS IT ON

The crews, festivals and labels of Aotearoa.

Fourteen crews and festivals with a dated listing in 2025 or 2026, five record labels, and the people who stopped. Every entry links straight out to whoever runs it — we sell no tickets, take no commission and put on no parties of our own.

Festival and club series

AUM

South Head · Auckland

A three-day New Year festival at Leightons Farm, South Head, north of Auckland, across four stages. Its psytrance stage, The Hill, is curated by Science of Sound. AUM also runs a winter series of one-night psytrance shows in Auckland warehouses.

NEXT AUM Winter Series 2026 — 25 September 2026, Auckland — address released the night before

Sources give the end date of the 2026 New Year edition differently — one lists only the 30 December start, two others run it to 2 January 2027. We publish the start date, which they agree on. Resident Advisor records the promoter as Aum Productions Ltd.

02

Five-day festival

Twisted Frequency

Tākaka · Golden Bay

Five days in the Cobb Valley on the edge of Kahurangi National Park, spanning psychedelic trance, dubstep, folk, metal and techno alongside visual art, circus and workshops. Its own site says the festival may be opening its gates for the last time.

NEXT Twisted Frequency 2027 — 30 December 2026 – 3 January 2027, Cobb Valley, Tākaka

The site describes the festival as both “a decade of underground culture” and eleven years old on different pages, and states it is facing financial difficulty. RNZ reported it in 2019 as a Nelson festival of 1,500 to 2,000 people.

03

Festival

Dimension Festival

Waimatenui · Northland

A festival in a remote valley beside the Mangakahia river in Northland, with more than 140 electronic artists across four stages covering psytrance, progressive, drum and bass, house, techno and ambient.

NEXT Dimension Festival 2027 — Origins — 5–9 February 2027, Waimatenui East Road, Northland

Three sources give the site address three different ways. We use the wording on the festival's own ticket page.

04

Festival

Yatra Festival

Tākaka · Golden Bay

A gathering in the Cobb Valley, Golden Bay, describing itself as a community-driven artistic revolution built around electronic music and art. The 2026 edition was held in collaboration with Mo:Dem Festival of Croatia.

NEXT Yatra Festival '26 in ritual with MO:DEM — 27 February – 2 March 2026, Cobb Valley Road, Tākaka

We found no 2027 edition announced on any page we could load.

05

Collective and sound system

Audio Art

Te Arai · Auckland / Northland

The collective behind Mystic Realms and Octoblast at Te Arai, north of Auckland. Their events run three stages — techno, psytrance and bass — on the Opus sound system, with a UV dance floor, workshops, markets and a zero-waste policy.

NEXT Octoblast — 23–25 October 2026, 186 Atkins Road, Te Arai / Mangawhai

One aggregator gives the Octoblast dates as 22–25 October; the organiser's own listing says 23–25 and that is what we publish. We could not confirm a website or social channel of their own beyond the ticket platform.

06

Club nights and open airs

Team Moksha

Wellington

A Wellington crew running the Moksha and Orgánica nights at Valhalla and Bliss Bar, plus open-air events, across psytech, forest, prog and dark prog. They marked five years in August 2026.

NEXT Moksha — 5 Year Anniversary Gathering — 8 August 2026, Valhalla, 154 Vivian Street, Wellington

07

Club nights

Inpsyde Out Productions

Wellington

The crew behind the Gumboot Gamut psytrance nights in Wellington, run with Galactic Frequencies Collective and presented by Ristafunk of Trancebum Productions. Their December 2025 night was billed as the freshest psychedelic trance in a full UV environment on a Void Acoustics rig.

NEXT Gumboot Gamut — 4 July 2026, Otto Champagneria, 125 Featherston Street, Wellington

We could not find a website or social channel of their own that we can link with confidence. If you are part of the crew, send us the link and it goes here.

08

Forest festival

NZ Psytribe

Northland · Northland / Auckland

The crew behind Lost in Paradise, a three-day forest festival with psytrance and techno on an Opus sound system, free camping, artwork and stage visuals.

NEXT Lost in Paradise — 2–5 January 2026, Auckland region

The website listed for them elsewhere, nzpsytribe.co.nz, returns a 404 — we do not link it. One aggregator gives the 2026 dates as 2–6 January against the listing's 2–5; we publish the listing's.

09

Sound system and free-party culture

Voodoo People Sound System

Raglan · Waikato

The sound system behind Circutopia at Raglan, run with crews from the South Island, Wellington, Northland and Raglan. The ticket page states the event is not run for profit and describes underground tekno and psytrance across three days of stage design and projection mapping.

NEXT Circutopia 2026 — 4–6 December 2026, Raglan

We found no website or social channel for the sound system itself — only the ticket page. If you run it, send us the link.

10

Club nights

Sharkra

Queenstown · Otago

The name behind the Mycelia and State of Euphoria nights at Bungalow in Queenstown, across psytrance, forest and bass. Sharkra also appears on AUM line-ups as an artist.

NEXT Mycelia — 4 October 2025, Bungalow, 26 Camp Street, Queenstown

Sharkra is the name recorded in the listing's organiser field, which on this database is often a personal handle rather than a crew name. We found no 2026 event and no channel of their own.

11

Club nights and boat parties

Trancevaders

Auckland

An Auckland crew running psytrance and psy-tech nights, including at Double Whammy in St Kevin's Arcade on Karangahape Road, and Halloween boat parties on the harbour.

NEXT Trancevaders — Double Whammy Edition — 14 August 2025, St Kevin's Arcade, Karangahape Road, Auckland

We found no event announced after August 2025. Their Eventbrite page loads but lists nothing.

12

Club nights

Agape_Nation

Auckland

The name recorded against Happiness Projekt at Cassette Nine in Auckland, an immersive electronic night listed in the psytrance party database.

NEXT Happiness Projekt — 21 February 2026, Cassette Nine, Auckland

The genre is asserted by the party database's categorisation. The ticket page itself does not say psytrance, and we are not going to claim it does.

13

Gathering

Luminate Festival

Canaan Downs · Golden Bay

A gathering at Canaan Downs, Pikikirunga, on the land where The Gathering was held — music, arts and ecology, alcohol-free and family-friendly, run by a charitable trust. Its artist pages carry psychedelic-trance acts including Maia, OOOD and Neurorythmic.

NEXT Freedom to Flourish — January 2026, Canaan Downs, Golden Bay

Luminate is not a psytrance festival and does not describe itself as one. It is here because it runs on the Canaan Downs land and books psytrance artists.

14

Participatory event

Kiwiburn

Hunterville · Rangitīkei

New Zealand's regional Burning Man event, at a site called The Paddock near Hunterville: no headline acts, a gift economy, no cash transactions, and sound camps built by participants.

NEXT Kiwiburn 2027 — Moss & Microchips — 27 January – 1 February 2027, The Paddock, Hunterville

Kiwiburn does not describe itself as a psytrance event and we are not calling it one. It is listed because its sound camps are part of the same outdoor-party culture.

HOW THIS LIST WAS MADE

A crew is listed as running only if we found a dated listing or announcement in 2025 or 2026 on a page we actually loaded. Where a crew has no channel of its own that we could verify, the entry says so instead of linking somewhere that might not be theirs. Where two sources disagree on a date, both are noted and we publish the organiser's own.

Two entries here — Luminate and Kiwiburn — do not describe themselves as psytrance events, and we do not call them that. They are included because they run on the same land and in the same culture, and the entries say exactly that.

WHAT THIS LIST IS MISSING

The South Island below Golden Bay is close to invisible from outside. We found no Christchurch or Dunedin crew we could verify, and only one Queenstown name. The biggest party databases are worse than useless for New Zealand right now — the main one returned no upcoming parties at all on the day we checked, while five festivals were announced on their own sites.

So this list is short because the internet is thin, not because the scene is. If you run something, or ran something, send it: name, place, a date, a link. It goes up with the source beside it.

IN THE ARCHIVE

  • Dubz Audio Wellington — A Wellington sound system that ran Raveyard with Harmonic Affairs in November 2025 — psytrance, forest, prog and darkpsy — before taking the rig on a South Island tour. We found nothing after November 2025 and no channel of their own.
  • Canaan Downs Festival Tākaka Hill — A New Year festival on Takaka Hill with a dedicated Trance Zone among its stages, running over the 2007/08 New Year with four stages and more than a hundred artists. Its organiser was named as Callam Mitchell. We could not find any source recording when or why it stopped. The land is now the site of Luminate.
  • Lubble Whangārei — An open-air party about thirty minutes east of Whangārei, named for the feeling of being in a love bubble, documented in 2018 and 2019. Listings titled Lubble 2023 appear in search results on a New Zealand events directory we could not load. We record it as historical because nothing after 2019 loaded for us — not because we know it ended.
  • Spectrum Te Arai — A two-stage festival at 186 Atkins Road, Te Arai — the same site Audio Art now uses — with its Yang stage given over to psychedelic, progressive and dub. Documented in 2022 and 2023. No promoter is named on the listing, and we found no edition after 2023.
  • Prana Festival Opoutere — Recorded as a venue at the Prana Eco Retreat, Opoutere, on the Coromandel. A Facebook page titled “Prana Festivals 1994-2015” appears in search results, which would make it one of the longest-running, but we could not open it. The events directory that lists it as a venue has no events recorded against it, past or upcoming. We can neither confirm it is still running nor say that it ended.

THE RECORDS

New Zealand psytrance labels

Small, badly indexed, and real. These are the labels a database search for New Zealand psy-trance actually returns, with what each page states and nothing added.

Manta Recordings

Auckland · last catalogued release 2003

A progressive psytrance label whose contact address on Discogs is 151 Karangahape Road, Newton, Auckland, and whose listed website was cyberculture.co.nz. Its first release, in 2001, was The Pylon EP — Pylon being an alias of Antix, the Auckland duo Barton and Hayden Strom.

151 Karangahape Road is the address AudioCulture gives for the Cyberculture record shop, opened in basement premises there in 1993. We have found no published source stating that the shop ran the label. What is documented is the shared address and the shared domain, and that is all we assert.

Cosmic Conspiracy Records

Nelson · founded 2003 · last catalogued release 2014

A progressive psytrance label and party organisation with twenty-one releases catalogued between 2004 and 2014, including the compilations Tall Poppy Syndrome (2008) and Cryptozoology (2012).

Its two sources disagree about where it is and who runs it: Discogs says New Zealand, created in 2003 by Aviel Peru, with a Nelson postal address; the label's own Bandcamp says Australia, founded by Tripinstumble. We publish both and resolve neither.

Kog Transmissions

Auckland · still releasing

An electronic label and studio, now owned by Chris Chetland, with more than 150 releases. Its 1998 compilation Transmit carries psy-trance and goa trance among its styles, and it released Pitch Black's Electronomicon in 2000.

Not a psytrance label as such — it is the label that carried much of the New Zealand material catalogued as psytrance.

Estuary Records

Christchurch · last catalogued release 2010

A Christchurch music company with three catalogued releases; Garden Spores (SPOR001, 2009) is filed under psy-trance.

Not to be confused with Estuary Recording Facility, a studio in Austin, Texas.

Mental Mekanix Records

New Zealand · last catalogued release 2008

Described on Discogs as a psy-trance label from New Zealand. One release is catalogued: Cerebral Overload, MMRCD 001, March 2008.

Artists with a documented catalogue

Antix

Auckland

A progressive trance and house duo of two brothers, Barton and Hayden Strom, working from Slow Burning Studios. They record as Pylon, Fiord, NE1 and Strom Brothers, and have released on Iboga Records since 2005.

Catalogues sometimes file Antix as Danish because their album Twin Coast Discovery was released on the Danish label Iboga, and because at least five unrelated acts share the name — including a second, different New Zealand band from Christchurch.

Grouch

New Zealand

Oscar Allison, described by Discogs as a psychedelic music project from New Zealand, with more than a hundred catalogued items and releases on Iboga, Zenon and Enig'matik. He also records as Grouch In Dub.

Cusp

Auckland

Ashley Kirk, a progressive psychedelic trance producer based in Auckland. His catalogued output is thin — the Expander EP, self-released in 2006.
