Why it matters
ZNA describes itself as “a retro-futuristic celebration” rooted in Goa trance culture, and its dancefloor programme is explicit about the music: “the golden age of Goa Psy-Trance”, “music created throughout the 1990s”, “authentic 90’s music”. Its 2026 programme was split into three strands — Goa Guardians, Retro Universe and Futuristic Reality — so the curation is anchored in the first generation without being confined to it. Reading that as a different position from Boom’s is our own assessment: ZNA’s only reference to Boom is one of shared ancestry, noting that the forest where it began also held “the 3 first Boom Festivals”. It operates as dancefloor, reunion and living archive — not simply a nostalgia festival.
What you hear
Its central identity is old-school Goa and psytrance: every temporal reference in ZNA’s own words is to the 1990s. The 2026 edition ran 15–22 July 2026 at Montargil Lake, Portalegre, and is over; ZNA states it gathers every two years, and has not announced the next one.
